美国财政部30日公布，2013年9月(2013会计年度第12个月)政府预算盈余达到750.70亿美元，较2012年9月的751.8亿美元盈余减少0.15%。
拜薪资税率调高之赐、美国9月份政府收入年增15%至3,014.35亿美元，支出年增21.5%至2,263.66亿美元。美国会计年度自10月开始至来年9月结束；2013会计年度预算赤字累计达6,802.76亿美元、创2008年度(4,590亿美元)以来新低，较2012年度的1.089193兆美元年减37.5%。美国失业率在9月跌至7.2%、创近5年以来新低。
彭博社报导，美国财政部表示，2013会计年度政府预算赤字GDP占比达4.1%、远低于2009年度的10.1%。Thomson Reuters报导，美国财政部指出，2013年度政府预算赤字大减、五分之四得归功于税收上扬。经济学家普遍认为，预算赤字GDP占比长线应在3%以下。
MarketWatch.com报导，美国财政部指出，2013年度政府收入创下历史新高、年增13%至2.8兆美元。另一方面，支出年减2%至3.5兆美元。
美国总统欧巴马(Barack Obama)目前保有「史上第一位美国总统在第一任的每一年政府预算赤字都超过1兆美元」纪录。美国最近一次缴出年度政府预算盈余是在2001年。史上最高年度预算赤字为2009年度的1.42兆美元。
