伦敦金是一种24小时均可交易的黄金投资理财品种，它同时也属于贵金属现货，由于其具有杠杆交易的原则，所以投入成本较低，投资回报率大、资金利用率高，且交易方式灵活，交易时间自由，适合通过低成本投入、短线操作而套取利润的投资者进行入市交易。
为何说伦敦金采用杠杆交易，所以投入成本较低？因为杠杆保证金交易的话，散户交易不需付齐选定现货品种在该时段交易价格的全部金额，只需按该全部金额的较小比例支付保证金即可，剩余金额都是散户所在的贵金属平台融资给其作为交易的，杠杆比例越高，保证金投入比例越低，在香港金银贸易场旗下的某些贵金属交易平台，杠杆比例高达1:400，大田环球贵金属的杠杆比例一般为1:100，因杠杆比例太高的话，不仅利润加大，还会无形中加大投资风险，而保证金交易则具有以小博大，资金利用率高的优点，既能做多也能做空。
伦敦金是每周一至每周六凌晨均是连续交易的交易产品，因此在工作日期间，交易时间可以让投资者自由选择，刚好中国北京时间的夜间，正是伦敦金的纽约盘面交易时段，此时段的金价变动幅度最大，影响金价消息最为直接，金市交投量和资金量较其他时段均明显庞大，投资者可以日间忙于其他事务，晚上正好有充裕时间和精力进行伦敦金交易，从而把握最佳的盈利时机。
由于国际因素对伦敦金行情的影响力较大，如欧美地区的经济数据出炉，对伦敦金价格能构成直接推动，因此伦敦金市场的价格变动是迅速的，所以不太适合长线投资，在确定入市点位以后即马上进场，当天把握价格变动产生的差价执行平仓，所以伦敦金交易在点位的设置上，止盈目标和入市点位通常不超过15美元/盎司，除非日内受主要消息面推动而形成的多空格局十分悬殊的单边行情，针对伦敦金价格的迅速反转特性，我们在建立每一手交易单时，都必须要严格执行止损，把亏损值控制在个人可接受的范围内，保障个人的本金，这是确定炒黄金获利基础的前提。
