因此，美国的CPI数据变动，是会对美元造成一定影响的，所以金价就会随之变动，具体表现为：
当美国CPI数据上涨，说明美国当前物价正在上涨，美国经济发展前景向好，通胀水平正处于增长的态势中，但是通胀过高是会引起通货膨胀危机的，所以，在CPI数据处于增长阶段，为了把美国的通胀水平控制在良性阶段，美联储是可能进行加息的，那么这就对美元构成了利好，使美元受益上涨，而黄金由于是美元标价的，那么美元上涨就会打压黄金，从而使金价下滑。
反之，若CPI数据下滑或呈现负增长趋势，则表明美国经济正在衰退，可能会出现通货紧缩，那么为了刺激经济复苏，美联储可能就会降息，从而对美元构成利空，打压美元下跌，金价就能从中得到提振。
